[glow=red,2,300]I know this is going to be a exceptionally nasty topic, but here goes, who here thinks the war was justified and why? are the myths surrounding the WMD real ( was the intelligence ****ed up) and is Iraq really that much better off now, than before the war started???[/glow]

Mmm, an interesting conflict, the recent Iraq war indeed.
As far as I am concerned, this was a two fold deal. On the one hand, The US administration aquires the oil fields and hence financial control others now dream of. And two, it is a show of force intended to drive fear into those states who would supply finances to terrorist cells. With this, Bush gains both finances and removes possible funds for terrorism.
However, this came at a great cost. With over 80 British troops dead, several hundred US troops dead (I cant remember last count, but losses stood at a horendous 300 a little while ago I think. Iraqi insurgents, over 1,200 and civilians over 10,000. And, after all this time since the begining of the conflict, no WMDs were discovered. Dr Kelly lies dead for realising the truth, in a act of suicide.
The Hutton enquiry was clearly influenced by government power, with it blaming no one. The dossier provided which supported the war was highly fabricated.
Just where do We stand now? Well, power is slowly being given to the inter rim government, but that itself is in internal conflict. There has even been rumours of the new Iraqi PM executing prisoners. Life, has now become cheap, as it was in the days of Saddam.
Even those who are meant to of provided peace, the soldiers sent to "free" the Iraqi people, have partaken in terrible acts. But please note, this was a handfull of soldiers, I found the medias labelling of every soldier as a virtual sadistic killer is quite disheartening. There are cells of people in every countires military who have sadism and cruelty in their nature, to label every countries soldiers that bad.
Iraq is a shambles. Operation: Iraqi Freedom was a smokescreen. One which people have seen through. All we can do is when it is time to vote for The UK and US leaders, people remember the tears shed for those who died fighting for a lie. That every grave that stands is a shard of a memory of the cost of two mens greed and need for power. That the tears of widows remind the people, this war cost more than the lives of good people.

LOL class. I'd say 5-1. Depends how much oil they have. I think Bush has been playing Risk too much lately. But don't worry i'm sure he can get round to taking over most of the middle east by say......2007. Terrorism is the new free ticket to invade a country. Taking over the world by "liberating" one country at a time. Its when he starts sending troops to Africa you have to worry. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3054948.stm#graphic

Well heres the price of freedom. www.iraqbodycount.net/bodycount.htmUS UK Other* Total Avg Days 897 61 60 1018 2.08 489 Civilian casualties between 11252 and 13213. Justify those lives lost. Go on. Make me understand why those men, women and children died. They died for the lies and need for money. Freedom, hah, its taken this long for power to be handed back to the Iraq people. You cannot hide from the facts, people died for the co allitions fake truths. Dossiers of lies, statements that were knew to be untrue. Welcome to democracy...

I am gonna have to disagree with all those that are so hard line anti war. I feel just as annoyed as most do about how we came to go to war. There was a lot of lieing and other bullshit being feed around to the population BUT i dont have a problem with what it actually acheived/is going to acheive. The war has done a good thing! Will anyone here argue that Saddam was a nice man? I dont think so! He has been removed from power! Phase one complete! Everyone seems to think in such an annoyingly short sighted way. Everyone seems to expect us to be able to invade a country without anyone dieing and restore the country to full working order super fast! Thats not gonna happen in war people die and after war it takes a very very long time to repair the damage. Nav said there have been over 10k civilian casualties which yes is a shame as no one wants innocent people to die BUT compared to what saddam has done to them over the years its not as bad as it sounds. On one program i watch about saddams chemical wepons(when he had them) i heard that over 1MILLION Iraq civilains had died due to saddam! He has deployed chemical wepons agaisnt his own people. Under saddam the people didnt have freedom! They do now! Its not complete its not perfect people are still dieing there are still alsorts of problems and i expect there will be lots more problems for a very very long time to come! But ultimatly they will have freedom! They will have there rights they will enjoy the massive amount of wealth that the oil will provide. Freedom comes at a high price but a price worth paying none the less! You also have to look beyond what the iraqs themselves stand to gain. Britain the USA and other coilition nations have gained VERY GOOD access to some of the largest oil feilds in the world! Which is gonna be handy as oil starts to run out! The coilition has also sent a powerfull message to the rest of the world saying we are willing and able to use force against our enemys. We have strengthed our freindships with other coilition nations. This war once again went to show the great freindship between Britian and USA We are fighting buddys and the world will relise that you mess with one of us you mess with all of us. These may all seem like selfish and unjust reasons to go to war BUT the ulitmate jobs of our leaders to do whats best for our coutry! YOu must think that these people want to be re-elected so they will only do something as unpopular as a war if they feel it is absolutly nessacarry.
