ALTERNATE MORAL: Windows XP provides a restore system for a reason...if you're going to install new software (of any type), Click Start / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore and in the nice box that comes up, check the Create Restore Point radio and follow the instructions. Takes 2 minutes - can save hours (even days in some cases - don't ask).

You created a restore point right before you installed the new version of Zone Alarm? If so then I'm impressed and suprised it didn't work (although restoring to older points can be problematic).
A good tip for using the system restore is to turn off your firewall and virus checkers before doing anything with it (unplug your modem if you're permenantely connected to the net and are worried about doing this).
