[glow=blue,2,300]I seem to be having problems running some of my games as smoothly as I was before my system was fully restored to factory settings and I have been told that one reason could be that I have installed directx9 So was just wanting to know how do I unistall the damn thing? Now I found a couple of programmes which will let me do it but they all require a copy of windows xp which I dont have as I got my computer from pc world and they only supply you with a system restore disk. So can anyone help me?[/glow]

Have you run the diagnostics on directX? Can see why installing it would cause a problem - I thought most if not all games actaully needed it...
Not that I have a clue about this kinda thing anyway..
Now.. if you ever need shopping advice...

[glow=blue,2,300]Ok ill go into my problem in more depth and tell you whats happening. Before I did a full restore on my system my games where running perfectly. Now games those games are really really jerky at times and these are games like return of the king and pro evelution soccer. In return of the king the game should be runnin good at full resolution which is 1024*768 but when its on a video shot it goes in kinda slow motion and the same goes for pro evolution soccer. Now here I get another problem, my screen resolution is 1024*768 but when i change the game resolution to 800*600 the entire screen moves to the right showing a empty screen on the left hand side and the rest of the game on the right and missing half the screen which makes it impossible to play with. Now I have tried forums but so far no one can help me and I have tried all the technical stuff like swearing at the computer, shouting at it, hitting it oh and I've also tried updating drivers bringing down screen resultion too. Both games work find when i use 640*480 but its really crap graphics so can somone please help a poor innocent boy like me?[/glow]

Get you windows disk out and copy windows over the windows you have, but in windows xp, start the setup from the cd when you turn computer on, then go through the setup as if you are installing from scratch then select re copy across windows, Choose the repair windows one, by recopying the files across and attempt to repair the operating system.DO NOT SELECT INSTALL FRESH COPY OF WINDOWS, DOING SO, will remove all your programs and settings. After you have done that in windows xp then you will then have direct x 8 there, and in windows me and 98, you will have direct x 8 if you reinstall windows over windows.[/glow]

[glow=red,2,300]Sorry to contradict you there Jose, But you can uninstall dx9 Ice see me later and I will talk you through it, although you should not need to uninstall it, most new games NEED dx9, or else they won't run properly, I suspect you may have a early version of dx9, cya later [/glow]

Go to the windows update site to ensure that its the latest version of direct x9. I have had similar problems with games going really funny when you lower the screen resolution. When that happens just use your monitors controls to adjust the image until it is in the correct place. You will only have to do that once and it shouldnt affect anything outside of the game.

[glow=red,2,300]just a update to this problem, whenever you upgrade your DX it is sometimes better to actually uninstall the version you have fully first, if not you can sometimes suffer problems with the new install, e.g. files not being overwritten there are one or two DX unistallers out there to be had[/glow]
