Ok trying to work out why that is (might solve all the LAN problems out there if we can work it out lol). 1. You're running the spawn protection mod aren't you? 2. You're running the enhanced server aren't you? 3. Are you running any other mods (not skins etc. but server mods)? 4. When you say you're on a LAN, is your modem attached to a particular PC in the LAN (such as the one you're running the server on) or is it on the LAN (maybe its a router modem)? 5. Can't think of any more questions can anyone else? #1. Yes. #2. Yes. #3. No. #4. The modem is direct into this PC, but I'm still on a lan. Sometimes TWO games show up when I start a server, one is at my LAN IP address, but the other is at my proper one. #5. No.

5. Is it a dhcp connection?

Well I'm guessing what it does is look for an internet connection. Because your modem is connected to your PC, it finds it whereas with me, it only finds the lan.
I'll have a look at the server source code tomorrow to see if there's anything we can do.

Got mine up and running after a load of grief and i'm on a LAN. I've got broadband coming out of the cable box on USB, to the main server downstairs. There's my brothers pc, my pc and my 2nd pc all connected through a hub to the server over a LAN. The problem i had was it wouldn't show up for other people. I was the only one who could go on it over my lan. Then my brother did something to the port 27888, which is the one the AVP2 dedicated server uses and low and behold it bloody worked. Only problem i've got is my spawn protection isn't working. I've got the enhanced server running, and map pack 4 is working cool, but no SP. I think it might be my customres txt file. But i'm not sure what is wrong.

Your customrez.txt file (note its rez not res) should look like this:
It should be in the top avp2 folder (usually C:\Program Files\Fox\Aliens vs. Predator 2) as should the AXP1097F.rez file.
Hope that helps, especially as I'm guessing the port number you've specified will help me ;D Off to play with my router port settings!

If people have managed to fix their LAN problems, can you tell me how to do it too please?

Its a bit tricky because everyone's set ups are so different. I have to log onto my router and then set port forwarding for port 27888 (as mentioned by Delta). I'm having troubles doing this at the moment as my router is rather finiky. However, with your modem being connected directly to your PC, I'm not quite sure how to do that.
You could try setting up a DMZ on your lan but that has security issues. I've also seen stuff about UPnP in this context but I really don't know much about that I'm afraid.
The other thing that could be causing problems is your firewall if any. It could be that its not allowing the avp server out onto the net or that its thinking the server is a port scan attack (which is a problem I've had).
Have you been able to try disabling the lan yet? (you can re-enable it as soon as the server is up and running btw so it would be down for a minute or 2 max).
Beyond this, I really don't know what to suggest apart from maybe going to Sierra Tech Support but whether they'd be able to help (again because of everyone's different configurations), I don't know.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

To play or to host? Cause if its to play then it sounds like you or someone has configured the firewall to "not allow" AVP2 to access the internet and act as a server (it needs to act as a server even if you're not hosting). It might even be that your firewall is asking if it should allow the program access but you don't see that message because you're in AVP (and the message goes when you come out because the program's no longer trying to access the net).
Which firewall are you using? WIth Norton or ZoneAlarm, there are sections for program control. If what I suspect is correct, if you look there, you'll have either a cross or a question mark by AVP2 (or lithtech.exe). You need to change that to ticks (in all columns).

My server either shows up as invisible or doesn't let people in when I have my firewall up. When playing though, I keep getting bombarded with "IP ADDRESS IS TRYING TO ACCESS YOUR COMPUTER" so I simply turn my firewall off to play. I don't care about people hacking my computer too much. There is nothing valuable there, nor is there anything that really matters to me too much, I back everything up that I care about onto CD, and as such, I'm not worried about hackers really. Just an inconvenience if my PC dies! =P

Yes yes yes, ;D. Cheers Rik, looks like its working now. Yipeeee!! No more spawn kills haha!!!!!! Turns out i had one too many spaces in the custom file. I got that port number from the advanced options when you go to set up an avp2 server. You can change it if you want, but i don't know enough to do that. Luckily we are running Windows 2003 server so my brother had no problems sorting the port out. I don't know if its a easy with Windows XP. As for finding an easy way to get these servers going i wish i could help. This is the post that helped me get it working. I searched google for hours looking for a thread to solve this problem, till i found this. www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?s=534408779ede7b16a71e7467d34ceba9&t=102907And I got so fed up with my firewall i uninstalled it. I just leave norton anti virus 2004 running. It practically takes over your pc anyway, and deals with most problems. And i borrowed it for free...
