2001: a space odyssey is quite possibly the biggest head-f*ck i've ever seen. you get the general jist from the beginning, "yeah yeah, they give mankind a push etc" and all the monkey business is cool, you fall in love with the overly formalized and idealistic society of the future blah blah blah. but then it all goes f*cking bonkers at jupiter, kubrick decides that it's time for lots of unrefined cgi and thos swirly marbly oil prints you used to make in primary school. then he hits you with the footage taken whilst flying low across the outback/grand canyon whilst swapping colour filters over. the bit in the house is then even f*cking stranger, then to cap it off, a baby in space!
still thought it was a cool film though, i acknowldge it as a classic, one quarm i have is kubricks use of "uber-suspense". alot of the time i was saying "JUST OPEN THE F*CKING HATCH!!! CAN'T THAT SPACE SHIP GO ANY FASTER!!! SWALLOW THAT F*CKING SANDWICH ALREADY!!!"
has anyone else felt a bit bewildered after watching it?
